What Are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are a series of thin, see-through plastic trays made to fit your teeth exactly, each one shaped slightly closer to the finished position than the last. Gamblin Orthodontics provides clear aligners in Hazlehurst MS using Clarity Aligners by Solventum, planned digitally from a 3D scan taken at our Downing Street practice.

The trays go in for roughly 20 to 22 hours a day and get replaced with the next set on a schedule, usually every week or two. Each set applies gentle pressure to a handful of teeth at a time, which is what walks a crooked bite toward a straight one over the course of a year or so.

The word that matters here is removable. Nothing is bonded on. You take the trays out before every meal, brush and floss like you always have, and put them back when you’re done.

Aligners are commonly used to correct crowding, spacing, minor rotations, and mild to moderate bite concerns. They also handle a specific and very common problem well: teeth that shifted years after braces because the retainer got abandoned.

Benefits Patients Notice First

Ask a Copiah County patient a month into aligner treatment what they like and you’ll hear a fairly predictable list.

  • Nobody comments on them. Coworkers, customers, congregation, classmates. The trays simply don’t draw attention.
  • Meals are unchanged. Nothing gets banned from the table because you’re not eating with the appliance in.
  • Brushing and flossing stay ordinary. No threading floss under a wire, which pays off in healthier gums by the end of treatment.
  • Almost no unplanned visits. Nothing breaks loose and nothing pokes, so treatment rarely interrupts a workday.
  • Records are digital. A handheld scanner replaced impression trays, and the scan takes minutes.
  • You see the destination early. Digital planning shows the projected finish before you commit to it.

There’s a quieter benefit too. Aligner patients tend to look at their own teeth in the mirror more often, and that attention alone tends to improve how well people brush.

Cleaning and Caring for Your Trays

This part gets skipped in most explanations, so here it is plainly.

Rinse the trays every time they come out, before they go anywhere near a case or a pocket. Brush them gently with a soft toothbrush and cool water, not hot water, which can warp the plastic and ruin a fit that took a lab to build.

Water is the only thing you can drink while wearing them. Coffee, sweet tea, and soda stain the plastic and trap sugar against enamel for hours at a time. That combination causes far more damage than the drink alone would.

Keep the previous set until the current one is tracking properly. If a tray goes missing, that old set is the backup that keeps your case from sliding backward while a replacement is arranged.

The Treatment Timeline in Hazlehurst

Free first visit

An exam, a conversation about what’s actually bothering you, and an honest answer about whether aligners will solve it. Same day first visits are often available at our Downing Street practice.

Scanning and planning

The 3D scan builds a digital model of your bite, and from there we plan how each tooth moves and in what order. You’ll get a projected length of treatment, the full cost, and a monthly payment before deciding anything.

Getting started

Eligible patients can begin the same day rather than driving back in. You leave with your first trays, a wear schedule, and a plan for tray changes.

The middle stretch

Trays get changed at home on schedule. You’ll come in periodically so we can confirm the teeth are following the plan and check that hygiene is holding up. These visits are brief.

Finishing and refinements

Sometimes one or two teeth lag behind the projection, and a short refinement series brings them the rest of the way. That’s normal, not a failure of the plan.

Retention

Teeth move throughout life. A retainer is what keeps the finished result finished, and we’ll fit yours as soon as active treatment ends.

Who Aligners Suit, and Who They Don’t

Good candidate Better served by braces
Adults and teens with permanent teeth in place Children still losing baby teeth
Mild to moderate crowding or spacing Severe crowding with blocked-out teeth
Relapse after treatment years ago Substantial rotation or vertical movement
Someone who’ll wear trays 20 to 22 hours daily Someone who won’t, honestly
Minor bite refinement Significant jaw discrepancy or surgical cases

The deciding factor is usually wear time rather than the teeth themselves. Aligners don’t work while they’re sitting in a case on the kitchen counter, and no amount of good planning compensates for that. We’d rather tell you braces are the better fit than watch a case stall for a year.

An in-person exam is the only way to confirm any of this. Online quizzes and mail-order kits skip the X-rays, the exam, and the supervision, which are exactly the parts that catch problems before they cause damage.

Clear Aligner Questions We Hear Most

What does treatment cost in Hazlehurst?

It depends on how far your teeth have to travel and how long that takes, so the number comes at your free first visit rather than over the phone. You’ll see the total and the monthly payment together. This location is in-network with Medicaid, we file out-of-network claims for you, and interest-free in-house financing covers the rest.

How long will I be in aligners?

Most cases land between 12 and 24 months. Closing a small gap or correcting minor crowding can wrap up considerably sooner. Your projection comes out of your own digital plan, which is built from your scan rather than an average of other people’s cases.

Is it painful?

It’s pressure, not pain. A new tray feels tight for a day or so, which is what tooth movement feels like, then it settles. Most patients say each set gets easier as they adapt to the rhythm. Over-the-counter pain relief covers it if you need anything at all.

What if I skip wearing them for a few days?

A day here and there is recoverable. A pattern isn’t. Teeth drift off the projected path, the next tray stops seating properly, and the fix is a new scan and revised trays. Tell us the truth at your progress visit and we’ll adjust the plan instead of pretending.

Can aligners fix a bite problem or only crooked teeth?

Both, within limits. Mild to moderate bite issues respond well, sometimes with the help of small tooth-colored attachments or elastics. Significant bite and jaw discrepancies need braces or, in some adult cases, surgical coordination. Your scan tells us which category you’re in.

Do I have to wear a retainer when I’m done?

Yes, and it isn’t negotiable. Teeth drift throughout life, and a large share of adults we treat are here because they stopped wearing a retainer after braces as a teenager. We’d rather you not repeat that.
